Mit Wirkung vom 15.9.1990 wurde dem theologischen Seminar von dem Ministerrat der DDR auf Vorschlag des Ministers für Bildung und Wissenschaft, Prof. Dr. Hans-Joachim Meyer, die staatliche Anerkennung als Hochschule erteilt. Am 17.4.1991 wurde von der Division der Beschluss gefasst, Friedensau als alleinige Predigerausbildungsstätte für Deutschland zu betreiben.

The organization was established in 1972 as the Euro-Africa Division through the merger of the Central European Division and the Trans-Mediterranean Division. From 1995 the abbreviation EUD was used. In 2011 the organization was renamed Inter-European Division following a territorial reorganization.

1912 wurde die Mitteleuropäische Union gegründet, die Süddeutschland, Böhmen, Mähren und Schlesien umfasste. 1927 wurde sie zum Süddeutschen Verband umbenannt und reorganisiert.

As a result of the growth of this division, at the council of the European Division in 1928, in Darmstadt, there was a reorganization into three new divisions. These were: Northern European Division (now Trans-European/TED), based in London, St. Albans; the Central European Division (CED), based in Berlin and Darmstadt, Germany; and Southern European Division (SED) in Bern, Switzerland.
